As the name suggests, the Intra-Company Transfer visa allows foreign nationals to enter and work in the UK if their employers need them to work in the UK branch of their organization. Depending upon the duration of the employment and nature of the work, there are 4 kinds of Intra-Company Transfer visas offered by the UK government. Here is a quick outline:

  Long-term Staff:   It is for those foreign employees who have been assigned job at the UK branch of an organization for a period longer than a year. Here the employees must have worked with the organization for at least one year already. The maximum duration one can remain in the UK with Long-term Staff visa is 5 years and 14 days.

  Short-term Staff:   This stream is for those employees who have been transferred to the UK branch of a firm for less than 12 months. Here again, the employee must have worked with the organization for at least 12 months prior to filing for visa. Under this category, foreign nationals can remain in the UK for a maximum time of a year.

  Graduate Trainee:   As the name suggests, this stream is for recent graduates who are offered a special training program in the UK from their employers. The candidate should be at least have an experience of 3 months with an organization. Under Graduate Trainee stream also, foreign nationals can remain in the UK for a year.

  Skills Transfer:  This stream is for highly skilled foreign employees who are welcome to the UK to share their work knowledge, experience and abilities/skills. For this stream, there are no time limits with regarding how long an employee must have worked for the employer. The Skills Transfer Intra-Company Transfer visa allows foreign nationals to remain and perform their duties in the UK for as long as a half year.

Dependent family member can also go with the primary applicant on the Tier-2 Intra-company Transfer visa. Dependent family member in this context means life partner or spouse and kids below 18 years old.
