Professional Year ICT is another component of Australia’s Professional Year Program and is dedicated to candidates looking forward to make a career in IT and computer science industry. The Professional Year – ICT was developed by Australian Computer Society (ACS) and help candidates in gaining the required knowledge and skills thoroughly for a workplace environment. During the professional year, candidates will be:
Familiarized with Australian employment market, work culture and workplace ethics.
Taught how to communicate effectively and professionally in Australian workplace environment.
Provided an internship to get familiar with all aspects of Australian workplace.
Here are the components included in program and their duration.
Professional component: 44 weeks (minimum duration for the complete program)
Training component: 30 weeks
Weekend sessions: 1 x 8 hours per week
Weeknight sessions: 2 x 4 hours per week
Internship placement: 12 weeks (full-time)
Aspire: IELTS Advanced program: 5 weeks (1 x 4 hours every week)
The program will take care of entire professional development of the eligible candidates, and apart from practical hands-on learning will also prepare candidates on workplace culture, ethics, expectations and responsibilities. The 12 weeks of Internship placement component will be provided by ACS, in which candidates will be provided complete ‘professional environment’ and will have to attend 3 industry events.
In order to enter into ICT, foreign nationals have to meet following requirements:
Candidates must have graduated from a related higher education program (computer science or IT degree) of minimum 2 years duration in Australia
Candidates must be holding a subclass of 485 Temporary Resident Visa
Candidates must have achieved a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent for General Test Report Form (TRF) in all four sections – reading, writing, speaking, listening
Candidates must have completed at least 9 of their 12 core knowledge areas at tertiary level including the compulsory core knowledge areas relevant to their ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) code
